Do you remember, remember the days

June 2026

Life was easy, we felt no pain…

As I reflected on our EMEA Conference in Amsterdam, I was searching for a music reference in my library and I came across the opening lines from Richard Ashcroft’s “Streets of Amsterdam”.  The song symbolises the simple pleasure of companionship amidst life’s complexities.  Given the number of long-standing relationships, shared experiences and new connections that make our network so relevant in times of uncertainty, it felt especially apt.

Life in the accounting profession has never been particularly easy, and the conference reminded us of something extremely important: the value of coming together, reconnecting with colleagues and sharing experiences with people who understand the opportunities and challenges we face every day.

Amsterdam was more than just a host city.  It became a meeting place for ideas, perspectives and friendships.  Members gathered to discuss the future of our profession, explore emerging trends and exchange insights that will ultimately benefit the clients and communities we serve.

What stood out most, however, was the strength of the relationships that underpin our network.

In a profession increasingly shaped by technology and virtual communication, there remains no substitute for face-to-face conversations.  Whether during the formal conference sessions, over dinner and drinks, at the Heineken museum, or while exploring the streets and canals of Amsterdam, meaningful connections were strengthened and new ones were formed.

The discussions throughout the conference addressed the issues impacting our profession today: technological change, talent development, regulatory requirements and the evolving needs of clients.  Yet there was also a shared sense of optimism.  Across the region, firms are embracing change, investing in their people and finding new ways to deliver value.

Perhaps that is where the connection to “Streets of Amsterdam” resonates most.  The song carries a sense of reflection, looking back while continuing to move forward.  Our time together in Amsterdam provided exactly that.  It allowed us to celebrate achievements, recognise how far we have come as a network, and focus on the opportunities that lie ahead.

I trust everyone returned home with not only notes and action points but renewed relationships, fresh ideas and a stronger sense of belonging to a network that continues to grow and evolve.

My thanks to our Dutch hosts, my team, our speakers, and everyone who helped contribute to yet another highly successful Russell Bedford International event.
